Dump truck tips over on Eisenhower Expressway, spilling salt on Route 83

A dump truck rolled over on an Eisenhower Expressway overpass in west suburban Elmhurst, spilling salt and snarling traffic Wednesday afternoon.

The semi-truck carrying an open trailer full of salt flipped on its side about 1:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-290 at Illinois Route 83, Illinois State Police said.

The dump truck was tilted on its left side, spilling salt onto Route 83, causing both lanes of Route 83 to be closed, police said.

The left and center lanes of westbound I-290 were closed, with traffic flowing in the right lane, police said.

The cause of the crash wasn’t known. No injuries were reported.
