The Denver Pioneers have two teammates vying for the top honor in college hockey.
DU forward Jack Devine and defenseman Zeev Buium were among the top 10 Hobey Baker Award finalists named Wednesday.
The final three Hobey Hat Trick finalists will be announced April 3, with the Hobey Baker Award winner revealed on April 11 at the NCAA Frozen Four.
Devine leads the country with 41 assists and 54 points while playing 39 games for the Pios. Buium has 30 assists on the season, and his 42 points are tied for first among all defensemen.
Devine and Buium were the only players from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference to be named finalists.
The Hobey Baker winner is chosen from a selection committee, with a round of fan balloting. Fans can vote at hobeybaker.com until March 30. The award is based on hockey skills, character, sportsmanship and academic accomplishments.
DU (28-10-1) is set to face Arizona State in the semifinals of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., at 3 p.m. on Friday. Top seed Western Michigan will face North Dakota in Friday’s other semifinal at 6:30 p.m. The winners meet in the championship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The defending national champion Pios are also looking to win their second consecutive Frozen Faceoff.
