Driver killed in solo vehicle crash Monday in Fremont

FREMONT – A 79-year-old man was fatally injured in a crash Monday night in Fremont, police said.

Officers were called to the 40500 block of Albrae Street around 6:40 p.m. for a report of a solo vehicle collision, according to the Fremont Police Department. They arrived to find the driver suffering from major injuries, including significant head trauma.

His passenger was not injured, police said.

The driver was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

The death marked Fremont’s second fatal traffic collision of the year.

An investigation revealed the car was traveling southbound on Albrae Street and approaching a turn when it hit a curb, crossed a grassy area and crashed into a tree, police said.

Only the passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, according to police.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Police have not determined if alcohol or drugs played a role.
