Driver hospitalized after crashing into Oakland pole

OAKLAND — A one-car crash early Monday shut down a three-block stretch of a city-long boulevard and hospitalized the driver, police said.

News footage showed the car wrapped around a pole near the intersection of 54th Avenue and International Boulevard in East Oakland. Police closed International Boulevard in both directions for hours after the wreck.

Police said the crash happened about 4 a.m. The Oakland Police Department did not have details immediately about what happened.

The driver was listed in critical condition at a hospital after being taken there in an ambulance.

Police said they are looking for information and asked anyone who has any to contact their department at 510-777-3333.
