Driver dead, passenger injured in Southwest Side wreck

A driver was dead and a passenger injured after a car struck a pole early Thursday on the Southwest Side.

Around 3:10 a.m., a 41-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima traveling north in the 7700 block of South Cicero Avenue when she lost control and rammed into a pole, Chicago police said.

The woman was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The passenger, a 35-year-old man, suffered “minor” injuries and was taken to the same hospital in fair condition, officials said.

The Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
