Draymond Green Defends Pistons After Recent NBA Announcement

When the Detroit Pistons got their eyes on the NBA’s Last 2-Minute report from Game 5 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, they probably didn’t expect the final review to go against their expectations.

Golden State Warriors‘ outspoken star Draymond Green sided with the Pistons.

“Ausar Thompson got tripped,” Green said on his podcast before the Pistons visited the Cavaliers for Game 6.

“Point blank period. Incidental or not. I hate when they say, ‘Oh, like, yeah, he did trip him, but it was incidental.’ Hey man, sometimes I foul, and I didn’t mean to. It was incidental. That’s the nature of basketball. Sometimes you may trip someone, and you didn’t try to. You still tripped them. That’s a foul.”

The NBA’s Explanation Didn’t Ease The Frustration

There’s no telling whether the foul during the final seconds of Game 5 would’ve changed the outcome of not.

Still, the Pistons wanted their chance to close the game out before overtime to take a 3-2 lead. Instead, the extra period went in favor of the Cavaliers, who completed the comeback to send the Pistons down 2-3.

“Allen (CLE) and Thompson (DET) legally step to the same spot while pursuing the loose ball [before either player has possession], and both lose their balance from the marginal contact,” the NBA’s report stated.

Before Game 6, Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff pushed back on the report.

“JB leaves his pregame availability noting that the NBA’s L2M report is ‘horse [expletive],’” Tony Pesta of Fear The Sword posted on X.

The Pistons Bounced Back

Fortunately for Detroit, Game 6 was a success. The Pistons live to fight another day, and could officially eliminate the Cavs on Sunday.

If the Pistons don’t, then they’ll get eliminated themselves. As frustrating as Game 5’s ending was, the 115-94 victory in Game 6 was sweet revenge. Now, the Pistons are one home victory away from punching their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals. The winner of Cavs-Pistons faces the New York Knicks.
