Los Angeles jolted by magnitude 4.4 earthquake, USGS says

The earthquake hit at 3:15 p.m. about 9 miles east-northeast of San Jose and at a depth of nearly 5 miles, the USGS reported..

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The USGS said the quake was felt as far away as Mill Valley, Santa Cruz and Livermore.
