There have been few announcers in sports more popular than Dick Vitale has been within the world of college basketball.
Vitale, who is now 86 years old, has been one of the most recognizable faces and voices in the whole world of sports throughout his career. He has called many epic games and has become an extremely popular sports personality to follow.
Unfortunately, Vitale has also experienced more than his fair of health issues.
On Monday, the legendary broadcaster took to social media to share a sad update about his health. He is once again facing cancer and has revealed what exactly that cancer entails.
Dick Vitale Makes Major Health Announcement on Monday
In a post on the social media platform X, Vitale revealed the health challenge that he is facing this time around.
“I obviously did not get the report today that I was hoping for when my oncologist called,” Vitale wrote.
“It has been 10 days of many exams Pet Scan – Cat scan – 2 MRI’s- Biopsy – multiple bloodwork – now at least I know what I face. The Melanoma Lung & liver cavity cancer will mean I will start IMMUNE THERAPY next week – plan on winning the battle!”
Vitale has had four battles with cancer prior to this current bout. He has continued to remain positive and focused on beating the disease.
He also provided a statement about his plan to beat cancer once again.
“I will be starting immunotherapy shortly and I plan on winning this battle,” Vitale said. “I’ve beaten melanoma. I’ve beaten lymphoma. I’ve beaten lymph node cancer. I’m four-for-four and I’m fully confident I’m going to make it five-for-five.”

It didn’t take long for an outpouring of love to come in for the legendary basketball voice.
“Pulling for you here in Morgantown, Dick. Do it one more time for all of us,” one comment read.
Another commenter wrote, “Hope you’re feeling all the love we’re sending you. I’ll keep praying for you. You got this!!”

Another response stated, “Time to beat cancer for the 5th time like the GOAT you are!! We are praying for you, @DickieV!!!”
