Detroit Pistons’ Front Office Gets Crystal Clear Message From Jalen Duren

The Detroit Pistons have an important decision to make this summer regarding the star center, Jalen Duren.

With his rookie contract expiring, Duren will become a free agent in the 2026 NBA free agency class. The good news for Detroit is that they will have an opportunity to match any offer sheet that Duren signs.

For Duren, he hopes that the Pistons make the first and only move, or match any offer coming his way.

“I mean, it was what it was,” Duren told The Ringer, recalling the fact that he didn’t ink an extension with the Pistons before the 2025-2026 NBA season.

“I think it’s tough because there is a business aspect to it. Like I said, I would love to be a Piston for life. It was nothing personal. Nothing I took personal with the organization or anything. It was just business. They felt one way, I felt another. And at that moment we couldn’t come to an agreement.”

Duren is currently making $6.4 million out of a four-year, $19.47 million contract.

Those numbers were expected to spike regardless of what happened in 2025-2026. With the season nearly in the bag, there’s no doubt that Duren has a large payday coming his way.

Last season, Duren finished the year with averages of 11.8 points (69.2% FG), 10.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks.

He admittedly started the season slow, but was clearly one of the most consistent centers in the league when the season was all said and done.

This year, Duren has taken a large step in the right direction. He is making 64.7% of his shots from the field, averaging 19.5 points per game. For the third year in a row, Duren is averaging a double-double with 10.6 rebounds per game.

He was named an All-Star and could potentially have more awards in his future.

The Pistons know Duren’s stance with free agency just a few months away. Pistons’ President of Basketball Operations, Trajan Langdon, told The Ringer that the interest in retaining Duren is mutual.

Soon, Duren will find out just how committed they are.
