Daniel Cormier Takes Brutal Shot at Nate Diaz: ‘Maybe You Should’ve Cried More’

Daniel Cormier did not hold back when he went after Nate Diaz over remarks Diaz made about him. He questioned Diaz’s mindset and approach to winning and losing. ‘DC’ took a shot at the Stockton native’s professional record and work ethic.

Diaz clearly struck a nerve during his appearance on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von. He took aim at Cormier for crying after his losses, as well as others, including Dustin Poirier. That was not well received, as ‘DC’ responded by taking a shot of his own.

The former two-division UFC champion criticized the former TUF winner for not caring enough.

“[Diaz] said ‘You cried.’ Nate, maybe you should’ve cried more. Then maybe we would think you care about winning and losing. Maybe if you cried, Nathan, you wouldn’t be so okay with losing,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “Losing, to me, was like death. That’s why I cried. You don’t cry.”

He continued:

“You go to the after party, you go hang out with your friends, you get beat on a Saturday. On Monday, you’re talking again like you’re the best in the world.”

Daniel Cormier Unloads on Nate Diaz for Criticizing His Fighting Ability

Daniel Cormier not only questioned Nate Diaz’s dedication to winning, but also labelled him an average fighter.

Diaz was not too complimentary of Cormier’s role on the UFC broadcast. He claimed that the former two-division champion could not fight.

“You’re a great wrestler, ‘DC.’ You can’t fight for [expletive]. You’re a big ol’ [expletive],” Diaz told said during his appearance on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von.

Cormier fired back by bringing up the fighters Diaz lost to throughout his career. He compared that resume to his own, which includes losses only to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

“[Diaz] says we pretend to know everything when in reality, we don’t. I don’t know everything. But when you list the people that are analyzing fights, there is one big striking thing that’s familiar, it is that we were champions,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “I don’t dislike Nate Diaz. But if you ask me what I feel about him and his career, in my face, I will tell him you’re average. That’s exactly what you were. You won 21 fights and you lost 13.”

Cormier Highlights Key Difference Between His Losses and Diaz’s Losses

Cormier also compared Diaz’s UFC losses to his own and highlighted a key difference between them.

‘DC’ began his career much later and suffered his losses well into his 30s. Diaz, meanwhile, was competing in the UFC during his athletic prime when he lost many of his fights. Cormier then took a shot at where they stood in their respective careers at the same age.

“Diaz is 40 years old and he’s gonna make $10 million to fight and I am happy for him. When I was 40 years old, I was in Anaheim fighting for the UFC heavyweight championship,” Cormier said. “That’s what I keep telling you, Nathan, we are different people.”
