Chicago Cubs‘ Pete Crow-Armstrong didn’t hide his strong support for Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams. The Bears are in the divisional round of the playoffs and will face the Los Angeles Rams, and Crow-Armstrong intends to be there to support the team and the city.
Moreover, Crow-Armstrong stated during a Jan. 17 appearance on 670 The Score that he’s paying back Williams, as the Bears star has been supportive of the Cubs and their outfielder.
“I will be [at the Bears-Rams game],” Crow-Armstrong said. “I’ve been saying it a lot. I feel like if I’m here, I might as well take advantage of such a fun team to watch right now. But Caleb’s the man. We don’t know each other that well at this point, but he’s been very supportive of this team and me, specifically, since he’s been out here.
“It’s only right that I dive right in and go support our franchise quarterback because he’s a special talent. But then I think what we’re getting to see as we play deeper into the year is how good of a player he is. I’m proud to follow suit and hopefully take on some role like that eventually.”
Alex Bregman Talks Decision to Join Cubs
The Bears and Cubs connection crossed paths on Jan. 10 during the wild-card round game against the Green Bay Packers. While the Bears were pulling off their come-from-behind win over their NFC North rival, during that playoff contest, the reported signing of Alex Bregman emerged.
During his presentation as the newest Cubs player, Bregman, who signed a reported five-year, $175 million contract, explained his decision to head to Wrigley Field after one season with the Boston Red Sox.
“The City of Chicago loves sports and they love winning and hopefully we can win a lot for them,” Bregman said (h/t The Athletic). “… I’ve been obsessed with the game of baseball since I was a kid. “I’m always trying to get better at the game, and I just want to win, and I’m excited about this opportunity here and hopefully winning a ton here.”
Cubs Have Long Had Alex Bregman on Their Radar
Last season with the Red Sox, Bregman recorded a .273 batting average with 118 hits, 18 homers, 62 RBIs, and 64 runs scored in 114 games, per StatMuse. After that productive season for Boston, the veteran infielder opted out of his contract to test the market, and this time around, the Cubs weren’t willing to lose out on signing a player who’s been on their radar for a while.
“I think anyone who’s spent time around our office, around me, knows that this is a player that I’ve coveted for a long time, that our department has coveted for a long time,” Cubs president Jed Hoyer said (h/t The Athletic).
Moreover, Chicago have now added a guy with World Series experience and leadership to their clubhouse, who will be looking to have a major impact on some of the young players.
“I think that sometimes we can overcomplicate what we’re trying to do here,” Hoyer said. “Every night, we’re trying to win a baseball game. And I feel like every single day, I think he’s in there in the video room with the hitting coaches trying to figure out not just him, but team-wide, how are we going to win that game, and I think that’s an obsession that he has.”
