The Colorado State Patrol is increasing patrols in Clear Creek and Jefferson counties to target impaired drivers over St. Patrick’s Day weekend because of a high numbers of crashes in those counties over the past four years.
State troopers will be increasing patrols and checkpoints on major roadways and feeder streets from March 14 to March 16, according to a CSP press release.
CSP said it is focusing on impaired drivers but will also stop people if they are driving in a dangerous manner, such as speeding or weaving around traffic.
CSP is patrolling Clear Creek and Jefferson counties because it has investigated a combined 84 fatal crashes and 424 crashes that caused injuries during the past four years, according to the release.
The leading causes of those crashes were drunken and distracted driving and speeding.
People can report unsafe drivers to the Colorado State Patrol by calling *277 or 970-249-4392.
