A Crystal Lake man is expected in court Tuesday accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Loop parking garage a day earlier.
Garland Benton, 45, was charged with aggravated battery in a public place, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, Chicago police said.
Benton is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Court building.
A 20-year-old woman was walking in the first block of North Michigan Avenue at 6:35 a.m. when Benton allegedly approached and assaulted her, police said. Witnesses intervened, and Benton fled before being arrested by police shortly after.
The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.
