Coroner identifies South Bay man killed after car went down embankment on Highway 85

A 65-year-old Los Gatos man has been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office after he died when his vehicle went down an embankment and crashed last week.

Joseph Morse’s Lexus was on the transition ramp where state Highway 85 meets state Highway 17 in Los Gatos when it ended up down an embankment and onto Oka Road on Jan. 8.

California Highway Patrol officers arrived around 7 p.m. to find the wrecked Lexus.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the CHP said Morse was traversing the transition ramp from northbound Highway 85 to southbound Highway 17 when the vehicle somehow left the roadway, went down a descending embankment, and stopped near the transition ramp on Oka Road.

Morse was ejected from the vehicle due to being unrestrained and died soon afterward, according to the CHP.
