COPA investigating officer-involved shooting in Austin

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating an officer-involved shooting early Thursday in the Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened near the 200 block of South Cicero Avenue, according to the police oversight agency.

At least one officer discharged their weapon, according to police scanner traffic. Information on whether officers were fired at or if anyone was struck wasn’t immediately available.

About 3 a.m., state troopers spotted a vehicle possibly connected to a Chicago robbery and pursued the vehicle from the Dan Ryan Expressway and 63rd Street to near Cicero Avenue and Monroe Street, where the vehicle’s occupants tried to run away, Illinois State Police said.

Three people were taken into custody by Chicago police officers, according to state police and scanner traffic.

Chicago police have not released details of the shooting.
