Connor McDavid’s Heartbreaking Viral Expression Has Oilers Fans Worried

The Anaheim Ducks have put the Edmonton Oilers into a precarious position in their opening round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, taking a two games to one series lead following Friday evening’s wild 7-4 victory at Honda Center in Anaheim.

Mikael Granlund scored a goal for the Ducks and added three assists, while Jackson LaCombe scored and added an assist as part of the victory, which was Anaheim’s second straight after losing the opener at Edmonton’s Rogers Place.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid finally broke out from an unusual two-game scoreless drought, scoring a power-play goal in the third period after having already notched an assist. However, he went a stunning minus-four during the loss, and it was his worried facial expression on the bench after the game that had everyone talking.

Edmonton Oilers Captain Connor McDavid Went Viral For His Worried Expression

McDavid made the rounds on social media for his worried facial expression on the bench as the Ducks celebrated their critical victory in Games 3.

Based on the reactions from fans who commented on the viral clip, many are wondering what McDavid’s long-term future with the Oilers is, especially if disaster were to strike Edmonton and they don’t make it out of the opening round of the playoffs.

This fan exclaimed, “He took a pay cut to keep playing there and his team did nothing with it and they still have a s*** goalie. I think you know the answer.”

“Just realised his two year contract hasn’t even started yet,” said another fan.

This fan believes he’ll never win the Stanley Cup while with the Oilers, saying, “I said it a few years ago. McDavid will never win the Stanley Cup with the Oilers. They didn’t build the team accordingly. Two players make up the team. No defense, especially no goaler (sic)…”

This fan took it even farther, saying, “Not trying to be a hater, I’m just not, but my honest assessment of McDavid is that he’s an amazingly talented player (inarguable) but he seems to be missing something. He underperforms when it really counts. Lack of teamsmanship? Trying to do too much by himself? It’s something.”

And finally, this fan said, “When he truly realizes that he knows he had his chance with Edmonton and it just didn’t happen. He’s clearly hurt, and this series needed to be over in 5 games for his team, and he definitely knows that.”

The Oilers Now Trail The Ducks Two Games To One

Defense and goaltending continue to be a problem for the Oilers, who are attempting to get back to the Stanley Cup Final for the third straight season.

“Obviously, not good enough from us tonight,” defenseman Mattias Ekholm said. “We scrambled to at least have a chance going into third, but mistakes are mistakes, and we’ll have to take responsibility for that. It starts with me. It starts with the guys that I’m out there with, and it goes on. We just gotta make sure we value the defensive side of the puck. It’s gonna be hard to win games when you let in six or seven.”

Game 4 between the Oilers and Ducks will be played on Sunday evening.
