Commanders QB Jayden Daniels misses another practice with ribs injury

The much-anticipated matchup between the first and second picks of this year’s draft might not happen Sunday.

For the second straight day, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was held out of practice as his team prepares to face the Bears on Sunday.

The No. 2 overall pick in the April draft hurt his ribs in the first quarter of the Commanders’ win against the Panthers on Sunday and left the game. He hasn’t practiced since.

Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington said the Commanders offense remains similar even if veteran Marcus Mariota starts.

“The skill sets are a little bit different,” he said. “Mariota has experience. He’s able to run the football. He can make throws. This person has been in a starter’s role at various points in his career, so he’s seen a lot of defensive football.”

The Commanders must submit an injury report Friday estimating Daniels’ odds of playing the Bears on Sunday afternoon.

“I hope he plays,” Bears quarterback Caleb Williams said Wednesday. “It only makes the game better.”
