Colorado weather: Snowfall continues through Thursday afternoon

Snow falling across central and southern Colorado will continue through Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest snow will fall across southeastern Colorado, including the Palmer Divide and plains east of metro Denver, NWS forecasters said.

Travel will be difficult across Interstate 25 through the Palmer Divide and along Interstate 70 between Denver and Limon, forecasters said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook.

No overnight snow totals were immediately available Thursday morning, forecasters said fresh snow still expected to fall could reach:

  • A dusting to 2 inches in downtown Denver and at Denver International Airport
  • A dusting to 3 inches in Aurora, Centennial, Colorado Springs, Highlands Ranch and Littleton
  • A dusting to 5 inches in Parker and Castle Rock
  • 2 to 8 inches in Elizabeth, Larkspur and Kiowa
  • 5 to 10 inches in southern Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains, including Cordova Pass and Culebra Peak

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains are on the eastern edge of Colorado’s mountain ranges. Little to no fresh snow is expected to accumulate in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains and San Juan Mountains on Thursday, forecasters said.

Light snow will fall in metro Denver through noon, forecasters said.

Between 6 a.m. and noon, up to 1 inch of snow will fall per hour across the Palmer Divide, forecasters said. That includes Castle Rock, Larkspur, Elizabeth and Kiowa.
