Colorado weather: Snow will let up Friday morning in Denver, followed by weekend warmup

A winter storm that dropped several inches of snow across the Denver metro area Thursday night — leading to school delays and cancellations and hazardous road conditions — is expected to clear up Friday ahead of a sunny weekend, with highs in the 50s forecast.

Snow is expected to stop by 8 a.m. and temps will climb to 39 before falling to 19 overnight, according to the National Weather Service. A high of 52 and sunny skies are forecast Saturday, followed by temps near 60 on Sunday.

The National Weather Service warns roads will remain icy and snow-packed along the Interstate 70 mountain corridor, southern foothills and Interstate 25 corridor from Denver south across the Palmer Divide, causing a slow morning commute Friday.

Despite this, Colorado’s Department of Transportation reported roadways were mostly open Friday morning, after a string of weather-related closures Thursday impacting I-70.
