Colorado weather: Snow likely overnight across Denver area, Eastern Plains

Snow reentered the forecast for Colorado on Sunday, with light flurries expected overnight into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The fresh wave of snow is forecast to drop between a trace and 3 inches across Colorado’s northern mountains, the Denver area and the Eastern Plains, according to the weather service.

Most metro area residents can anticipate roughly 1/2 inch of accumulation, with up to an inch possible, according to snow forecasts from the weather service. Denver and the Denver International Airport are both expected to see an inch of fresh snow.

Mountain passes — including U.S. 6’s Loveland Pass, Colorado 14’s Cameron Pass near Fort Collins and Milner Pass in Rocky Mountain National Park — may see up to 3 inches of snow, forecasters said.

Snow will start in Denver as early as 7 p.m. Sunday and likely continue through 8 a.m. Monday, according to hourly forecasts from the weather service. Drivers can expect “poor travel conditions” during the Monday morning commute, forecasters said in a hazardous weather outlook.

Colorado’s mountains could see snowfall two hours earlier, starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, and snow is expected to last longer into Monday morning, according to the weather service.
