Colorado’s mountains are forecast to welcome New Year’s Day with a round of snow.
Light snow is expected to begin falling Wednesday afternoon and evening, becoming heavier overnight and into Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
Forecasters warned that blowing snow, poor visibility and slick roads could make for hazardous mountain travel conditions and cautioned commuters to alter travel plans accordingly, either setting out earlier Wednesday or sticking around until drier Friday conditions.
The plains can expect a band or two of light snow, NWS Boulder said.
Light snow that fell overnight across northern Denver suburbs and around Castle Rock has the potential to make roads slippery with black ice, forecasters said. Be mindful of icy conditions while on the roads, NWS Boulder said.
Denver’s New Year’s Day is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 43 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Clear, sunny days are forecast to follow in the city through Saturday night when rain and snow are likely overnight and into Sunday.
