Colorado weather: Near record heat forecast ahead of cold front

Denver is forecast to see near-record heat for February on Monday ahead of a cold front moving in next week, according to the National Weather Service.

If temperatures in Denver hit the expected 70 degrees on Monday, the city will tie its record for the hottest Feb. 3 ever, NWS forecasters said. The current record high of 70 degrees was set in 1954, according to NWS data.

Even if Denver doesn’t tie or break the record, forecasters said the city will see temperatures nearly 30 degrees above normal for this time of month. The average temperature on Feb. 3 in Denver is 44 degrees.

NWS forecasters said temperatures will drop into the 30s overnight, so it’s unlikely Denver will break its record for the warmest overnight low on Feb. 3. That record of 40 degrees was set in 1925.

Colorado’s Foothills and part of the Eastern Plains are also forecast to see near-record heat on Monday, according to NWS forecasters.

On the plains, Byers is forecast to see temperature highs of 69 degrees on Monday, beating out the current record high of 68 degrees set in 2000, NWS data shows.

NWS forecasters said record temperatures are more likely on the western side of the plains. Cities further east, including Limon and Crook, are forecast to see Monday temperatures well below the record and closer to the average.

In the foothills, Golden is forecast to break its record high for Feb. 3 by more than 10 degrees, forecasters said.

Temperatures are expected to hit 67 degrees near Golden, which would shatter the current record of 54 degrees set in 2019, forecasters said.

Other areas in the foothills, including Evergreen, Conifer, Morrison and Bailey, are forecast to see near-record heat Monday but aren’t expected to break records.
