Several inches of fresh snow will fall on Colorado’s mountains Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The snowstorm, which will move into Colorado overnight Thursday, is expected to last through Friday evening, according to NWS forecasters. The greatest chance of snow will be between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday.
Forecasters said the light snow will drop between a dusting and 5 inches of snow on mountain passes above 10,000 feet.
The most snow is forecast for Buffalo Pass and Rabbit Ears Pass, two mountain passes near Steamboat Springs that are expected to see up to 5 inches accumulate Friday, according to NWS snow forecasts.
Colorado ski areas, including Loveland and Keystone, are forecast to see between 1 and 3 inches of snow Friday.
Saturday will be warmer and drier, but snow could return to Colorado’s mountains Sunday and continue into Monday, according to a NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook.
Similar light accumulations are expected in Sunday’s storm and NWS forecasters said the chances of snow exceeding 6 inches are low. It’s unlikely that snow from either storm will reach the lower elevation foothills and Front Range.
