Heavy snowfall in Colorado’s mountains and whiteout conditions fueled by strong winds have shut down parts of Interstate 70 and U.S. 6 on Monday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
As of 8 a.m. Monday, eastbound I-70 was closed between Exit 203 for East Frisco and Exit 216 for U.S. 6 and Loveland Pass because of “adverse” weather conditions, CDOT officials said.
Cameras in the area of the closure show white, snow-covered lanes on the eastbound interstate, but westbound traffic is moving normally.
U.S. 6 is also closed for “safety concerns” in both directions between mile marker 222 and Interstate 70, according to CDOT. The closure includes Loveland Pass.
