Colorado Rapids clinch MLS Cup playoff berth with 2-0 win over Toronto

The Colorado Rapids are headed to the playoffs.

Reggie Cannon scored a goal in his first home match with the Rapids and Djordje Mihailovic netted a penalty kick goal in stoppage time as Colorado took down Toronto FC 2-0 at a rainy Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night.

The win clinched the Rapids’ first MLS Cup Playoffs berth since finishing atop the table in the Western Conference in 2021. Colorado (15-5-10) now sits in third place in the West with 58 points, five behind first-place L.A. Galaxy.

Cannon, signed earlier this month, scored on a right-footed shot from outside the box in the 50th minute. With the Rapids looking to put the match away late, Darren Yapi drew a foul in the penalty box, and Mihailovic calmly arced a shot down the middle to notch his 11th goal in MLS play this season.

Colorado was easily the more dangerous of the two attacks on Saturday night, putting eight shots on goal to Toronto’s one.

The Rapids next travel to Minnesota United on Sept. 28.
