Colorado wildlife officials on Monday announced plans to track down a gray wolf pup they believe was left behind when its pack was captured near Grand County and relocated earlier this month.

After capturing the wolves, dubbed the Copper Creek wolf pack by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, agency biologists set up game cameras in the area to look out for ongoing wolf activity, the agency said in a news release.
On Sept. 20, representatives of Colorado Parks and Wildlife retrieved the cameras and found photographs of an uncollared wolf pup. The pup is believed to be a fifth member of the Copper Creek pack, and the agency said it is seeking to reunite it with the rest of the pack.
The release said the agency would not provide specifics about the locations involved in the operation “in order to provide the opportunity for the best operational outcome and for the safest environment for our staff, residents, the public and the animal.” It also mentioned federal agencies are providing technical support.
The Copper Creek pack was captured after it was implicated in a series of livestock depredations, agency officials have said.
