Colorado high school football: How Post Preps Top 10 teams fared in Week 9

Class 5A

1. Mountain Vista (8-0) vs. Rock Canyon, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Castle View, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

2. Cherry Creek (8-1) won vs. Smoky Hill, 55-3: The Bruins ran their Centennial League win streak to nine, with Jayden Fox opening the first half with a touchdown and Ty Goettsche capping it was a scoring grab to take a 48-3 lead into the break. The Creek defense has allowed just 10 points through four league games and is now one win away from its second straight unbeaten run through to a Centennial title. Next week: vs. Grandview, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

3. Valor Christian (7-1) vs. Fruita Monument, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Rock Canyon, 7 p.m. Oct. 31.

4. Legend (7-1) vs. Douglas County, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at No. 8 Regis Jesuit, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

5. Ralston Valley (7-1) vs. Denver East, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Arvada West, 7 p.m. Oct. 31.

6. Columbine (7-1) at Denver South, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. Chatfield, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

7. Pine Creek (5-3) vs. No. 8 Regis Jesuit, 1 p.m. Saturday: The Eagles can go a long way toward locking up a first-round bye in the 5A state playoffs with a home win over the Raiders. While Pine Creek won the last meeting with Regis, the Raiders have won three of the last four. Next week: at Fountain-Fort Carson, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

8. Regis Jesuit (5-3) at No. 7 Pine Creek, 1 p.m. Saturday: The Raiders have won five in a row and need just one more to set up a winner-take-all showdown with Legend for the 5A Southern League title in Week 10. Next week: vs. No. 4 Legend, 6:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

9. Erie (7-2) won vs. Legacy, 38-17: Ronin Ward passed for a TD and ran in another in the fourth quarter, and Braylon Toliver busted loose for a long scoring run of his own in the final frame as the Tigers turned a 17-10 lead into a runaway victory. Erie, which has won six straight, is now one victory away from claiming an outright league title in its first season in 5A. Next week: vs. Horizon, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

10. Fairview (8-0) vs. Fossil Ridge, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Rocky Mountain, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

Class 4A

1. Pueblo West (8-0) vs. Falcon, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at No. 2 Montrose, 6 p.m. Nov. 1.

2. Montrose (8-0) at Widefield, 6 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. No. 1 Pueblo West, 6 p.m. Nov. 1.

3. Dakota Ridge (7-1) vs. Golden, 7:30 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. Bear Creek, 7 p.m. Oct. 31.

4. Broomfield (7-1) vs. No. 7 Riverdale Ridge, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Skyline, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

5. Mesa Ridge (6-3) won vs. Doherty, 37-12: The Grizzlies emphatically ended a two-game skid with another explosive offensive showing in the Springs. Mesa Ridge has now topped 30 points in all six of its wins, with its last two losses coming by three and four points to No. 1 Pueblo West and No. 2 Montrose, respectively. Next week: at Falcon, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

6. Palmer Ridge (8-1) won at Rampart, 50-14: The Bears ran roughshod on a Rampart defense that up until Week 9 hadn’t allowed more than 24 points in a single game. Palmer Ridge attempted all of four passes in the rout, instead riding seniors Carson Campbell (nine carries, 227 yards, 4 TDs) and Avier Elvira (16-200, 3 TDs) to a 444-yard night on the ground that should send a message to the rest of 4A. These Bears have no problem getting physical. Next week: vs. Liberty, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

7. Riverdale Ridge (8-0) at No. 4 Broomfield, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. Grand Junction Central, 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

8. Durango (5-3) at Liberty, 6 p.m. Friday. Next week: vs. No. 10 Vista Ridge, 6 p.m. Nov. 1.

9. Frederick (6-2) vs. Monarch, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at Greeley West, TBD Oct. 31.

10. Vista Ridge (5-3) vs. Air Academy, 7 p.m. Friday. Next week: at No. 8 Durango, 6 p.m. Nov. 1.
