Ahead of Wednesday’s game, Charlie Goldsmith of Charlie’s Chalkboard reported that the team is signing Chris Paddack.

Goldsmith wrote: “According to sources, the Reds are signing veteran starting pitcher Chris Paddack.”

Paddack had recently been let go by the Miami Marlins.

He is 0-5 with a 7.63 ERA in seven games this season.

Goldsmith added: “In 2025, Paddack was a starter for the Twins and Tigers (he was traded at the deadline and pitched for a Detroit team that made the playoffs). Heading into 2026, he signed a $4 million deal with the Marlins. With Miami turning to some younger pitchers and with Paddack posting a 7.63 ERA, he was released earlier this week. The Reds needed rotation depth with Brandon Williamson and Rhett Lowder getting hurt over the last two weeks.”

Paddack’s MLB Career

Paddack was picked in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

He spent the first three seasons of his career with the San Diego Padres.

The 30-year-old then had his longest stint (3.5 seasons) with the Minnesota Twins.

Over the last year, Paddack has spent time with the Detroit Tigers (and Marlins).

He has gone 32-41 with a 4.79 ERA in 125 games.

For a team competing like the Reds, Paddack is a good (low-risk) addition.

Reds Right Now

The Reds are 22-20 in 42 games, which has them at the bottom of the National League Central.

That said, they are just 2.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for second (and 5.0 games behind the Chicago Cubs for first).

Following two more games against the Nationals, the Reds will open up a series with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday in Ohio.
