Chuck Goudie, veteran Chicago investigative reporter, joins NBC 5

Longtime TV reporter Chuck Goudie, who disappeared mysteriously from WLS-Channel 7’s newscasts in the new year, is headed back to the airwaves.

WMAQ-Channel 5 announced Monday that Goudie will join the station’s investigative squad on Feb. 10.

He’ll be working alongside reporter Bennett Haeberle and producers Katy Smyser and Lisa Capitanini on the “NBC 5 Investigates” team.

In NBC 5’s announcement, Goudie said the station has “a legacy of investigative excellence” and called it “a place with a motto more relevant today than ever, baked into its call letters: We Must Ask Questions.”

Goudie worked at ABC7 for more than 40 years until his abrupt exit on Dec. 31. The station offered no explanation at the time, and Goudie said only that he was “weighing several TV opportunities.”

The award-winning journalist joined ABC7 as a general assignment reporter in 1980 and was promoted to chief investigative reporter a decade later. He went on to lead the station’s “I-Team.”

In 2018, he was honored with an induction into the Silver Circle of the Chicago/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
