Chick-fil-A scholars
Eight employees of the Chick-fil-A in Sunnyvale were awarded $2,500 scholarships by the fast food chain to go toward their college education. Since the scholarship program began in 1973, Chick-fil-A Inc. has awarded 41 total scholarships to Sunnyvale employees, totaling $102,500.
The 2024 Sunnyvale recipients are Emily Hartley, Lucas Aubin, Joshua Shafer, Stacy Hernandez, Sael Enriquez, Jennifer Navarro, Danna Avila and Edgar De La Pena.
The award marks Navarro’s second Chick-fil-A scholarship; she also received an award in 2022.
Five of the scholarship recipients are first-generation college students, including Avila, who is studying public health sciences at a local community college with the aspiration to transfer to a four-year college in 2025. Her long-term goal is to be a surgeon and advocate for the Hispanic community. Avila has been working at Chick-fil-A Sunnyvale for three years.
Training for electrification
Caltrain is suspending all train service between San Francisco and San Jose the weekend of June 8-9 to accommodate the testing of its new electric fleet.
Limited capacity replacement bus service will stop at the San Jose Diridon, Palo Alto and Millbrae stations. There will be no replacement bus or train service at other stations. Buses will have limited capacity for luggage and bikes. Riders can use bike parking options, which are available at most stations. Buses will be ADA accessible.
According to Caltrain, the electrified system, due to debut in September, will mean faster and more frequent service, including doubling the frequency on weekends. The new trains will have WiFi, power outlets at every seat, onboard displays with digital trip information, and increased storage capacities.
