Chicago-style Italian beef sandwich shop closing in Aurora

Carm & Gia Metropolitan, a Chicago-style sandwich shop that opened a month before the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, said this week that it will close its doors.

Known for its stunning sign and its Italian beef sandwiches and hotdogs, Carm & Gia also served burgers and sandwiches in its diner-style setup at 9598 E. Montview Blvd. in Aurora.

“It is with much sadness and a lump in our throat that we announce the closure of Carm & Gia Metropolitan,” the restaurant’s owners wrote on Facebook on Sept. 10.

Its last day of service will be Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024.

“This decision was long in the making and a very difficult one. Our concept, comfort food when you want it most, in our little bright corner of northwest Aurora, and business model, sadly, was not sustainable,” they continued.

We opened on February 3, 2020, after completing a year and a half renovation to the property, which coincided with the timing of a month and a half before the USA COVID shutdown.

“Through it all, we have greatly enjoyed personally meeting many of you, our cherished customers, and are so grateful for your support,” they concluded.
