Chicago Pride Parade announces date, theme for 2025

The Chicago Pride Parade will return for its 54th year with a message of solidarity amid a volatile political climate.

PrideChicago announced Wednesday that the event will take place at 11 a.m. on June 29, and that its theme will be “United in Pride.”

The message describes “a call to action for everyone to come together in building a world where authenticity is celebrated, diversity is embraced, and equality and justice are unwavering truths for all,” according to the PrideChicago website.

The parade steps off at the intersection of West Sheridan Road and North Broadway, and ends at West Diversey Parkway and North Cannon Drive.

Last year, the route was shortened and floats were reduced from about 200 to 150 due to safety concerns and limited city resources. The start time was also moved up an hour earlier. Additionally, the Chicago Police Department staffed more officers at the event.

One of the oldest parades in the country, the Chicago Pride Parade was founded in 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall uprisings in New York City. The event continues to promote a mission that encompasses more than just a celebration.

“We are calling on everyone to come out, stand with us, and to participate in shaping a future where all people can live authentically, and unapologetically,” said parade co-coordinator Steve Long in a post on the PrideChicago Instagram page.

Parade co-coordinator Ron Thomas also shared his thoughts in the post.
