Chicago man charged in woman’s fatal Stone Park nightclub shooting

A Chicago man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a woman inside a nightclub in west suburban Stone Park this month, police said.

Kevin Henley Jr., 35, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, Stone Park police said.

Henley is accused of shooting and killing Zulma Calderon-Pacheco, 21, inside Mansion Nightclub on March 8, police said. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Calderon-Pacheco’s family and boyfriend of five years filed a wrongful-death suit against Mansion Live on Monday, claiming Henley — who isn’t directly named in the suit — was acting as a security guard at the time of the shooting and fired a gun after a fight broke out on the dance floor about 1:40 a.m. Calderon-Pacheco was shot in the face, court documents say.

The suit went on to allege several fights had broken out at the club previously and that it had a “history of violence.”

“Security guards are supposed to protect innocent patrons like Zulma Daniela Calderon-Pacheco from danger, not fatally shoot them,” the family’s attorney, Timothy J. Cavanagh, said in a statement. “Firing a gun into a crowded dance floor is reckless and negligent conduct by any measure. Zulma’s family and her boyfriend are heartbroken and traumatized and want answers about how this could have happened. … Their negligence cost Zulma her life.”

Mansion Live didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
