Also on Friday, the Cubs announced the latest update on Justin Steele.
He has been out since last season with an injury.
MLB.com wrote (on August 7): “Has reached bullpen sessions phase of his throwing program. The goal is to get Steele into game action before the end of the season. If he were to return to Cubs, it would be in relief role.”
Steele is coming off a season where he went 3-1 with a 4.76 ERA in four starts.

Steele was picked in the 5th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
He has spent all five seasons of his MLB career with the Cubs.
In 2023, Steele made the All-Star Game when he went 16-5 with a 3.06 ERA in 30 starts.

There is no question that Steele would be a huge addition to the Cubs if he is able to return to action heading into the 2026 MLB playoffs.
Over 102 career games, the 31-year-old has gone 32-22 with a 3.30 ERA.
