Charlie Woods, Son of Golf Legend Tiger Woods, Announces College Decision

Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has officially made his long-anticipated college decision, and it’s one that will put him at the forefront of NCAA men’s golf. On Tuesday, Woods announced that he has verbally committed to play golf at Florida State University, joining the Seminoles’ 2027 recruiting class.

The decision marks a major milestone in the young golfer’s career. The commitment was widely shared across social media, including an Instagram post from Charlie himself cheering, “Excited to announce my commitment to play golf at Florida State University – go Noles!”

From Junior Standout to Seminole Recruit

Charlie has steadily built a reputation of his own on junior golf circuits, distinct from his famous last name. Currently a junior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, he ranks No. 21 in the American Junior Golf Association and has compiled an impressive resume of accomplishments in recent seasons.

A major moment came in 2025 when he won the Team TaylorMade Invitational, a notable AJGA event, and followed it up with a strong performance at the Junior PGA Championship, where he tied for ninth. These results helped propel him up the AJGA leaderboard and solidify his status as one of the nation’s elite young amateurs.

Just last November, Charlie carded a final-round 68 at the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Class 1A State Championship, leading The Benjamin School to a state title and underlining his ability to deliver under pressure. This would become the second title Charlie helped FHS obtain (in 2023 as well).

A Different Path Than Dad’s, But Just as Exciting

Tiger, a 15-time major champion and one of golf’s most iconic figures, attended Stanford University before turning professional in 1996, setting a precedent that many expected his son might follow. His daughter, Sam, currently attends the school.

However, Charlie’s choice to stay in his home state and head to Florida State University represents a fresh chapter for the Woods name in collegiate golf.

Florida State’s golf program has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, finishing runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Championships and regularly contending among the nation’s best. The Seminoles also already boast a prime recruit in top-ranked junior Miles Russell, meaning Charlie will join a loaded class poised to compete at the highest levels.

What Charlie’s Decision Means for FSU and College Golf

Florida State securing Charlie is about more than just adding a skilled golfer; it’s a major branding moment that elevates the profile of its golf program and, arguably, its athletics department as a whole. As one observer noted, landing a recruit with Charlie’s pedigree and media interest could extend beyond golf, driving attention to Seminoles athletics across the board.

That momentum is backed by Florida State’s proven track record of developing elite talent. The program has produced several high-profile professionals, including major champion Brooks Koepka, PGA Tour winner Daniel Berger, and rising star Luke Clanton. Adding Charlie to that lineage reinforces FSU’s reputation as a launchpad for top-tier golfers, while also creating new opportunities through NIL exposure, recruiting momentum, and increased national coverage.
