Chargers Deepen Offensive Line with Travis Burke Selection in Round Four

The Los Angeles Chargers have made a trade with the Houston Texans that lands the Bolts the 117th overall pick in exchange for the 123rd and 204th overall picks.

The Bolts have selected offensive lineman Travis Burke from the University of Memphis with their second pick in the fourth round, going back-to-back offensive selections, after taking Brenen Thompson just a few picks earlier.

Burke is the second offensive lineman the Bolts have taken this draft, after taking center Jake Slaughter with the 63rd overall pick.

The former Memphis Tiger was graded as the 11th-best tackle in the nation by Pro Football Focus, with an 84.5 overall grade. The right tackle received an 84.2 run-block grade and an 81.5 pass-block grade from the publication.

Following a season where Justin Herbert was one of the most sacked (54, the third-most in the league) and pressured quarterbacks in the league, it makes sense that the Bolts are reinforcing his front five ahead of the 2026 season under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

Analyst on Travis Burke

Drafting Travis Burke comes at a time of need for the Los Angeles Chargers, with the team needing depth at the position.

Starting tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt both suffered season-ending injuries in the 2025 season, leaving Justin Herbert’s edges in disarray. Both tackles are now healthy and set to return for the 2026 season, but if anything happens like last season, the Bolts will need some depth to protect their star quarterback.

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein dropped his analyst on Burke as a prospect, noting his frame as a plus for the O-lineman.

“Burke is a tall tackle with plus drive-blocking talent for his body type. He uses flexible hips and ankles, along with well-placed hands, to create leverage at the point of attack. He finishes blocks with good aggression when the opportunity arises,” Zierlein wrote.

“A lack of short-area quickness limits his range as a run blocker and in pass protection. He’s scheme-dependent in the run game and will need help managing NFL edge speed, but strong hands allow for longer sustained control when he lands cleanly. There are areas of concern that might not be coachable, but Burke’s length and demeanor work in his favor.”

Chargers Going All In On the Offensive Line

While not adding any true standout names to the offensive front, the Los Angeles Chargers have made multiple additions to the group.

Outside of drafting Travis Burke and Jake Slaughter, the Bolts signed a few players in free agency who will likely be immediate starters.

LA signed center Tyler Biadasz to a three-year deal and guard Cole Strange to a two-year deal, with both players likely to take the immediate starting jobs under Jim Harbaugh.

The Bolts also brought back Trey Pipkins and Trevor Penning this offseason, creating some more depth at the offensive line.

With the additions, extensions and drafting of Travis Burke and Jake Slaughter, the Bolts are making it a priority to make sure their star QB gets hit less.
