On the Grammy night that cemented her rise to stardom, Chappell Roan took a moment to single out another key career event: her explosive Chicago set at Lollapalooza 2024.
“When my stomach dropped the most this year was looking out and seeing 110,000 people,” the “Hot to Go” singer said during an interview aired during the ceremony.
An announcer during the segment called her performance “the biggest daytime set in festival history,” over footage of the crowd that sprawled over acres of Grant Park last August.
The buildup to Roan’s Lollapalooza set coincided with her rapid ascent in the pop world, to the extent that, two weeks before the fest, organizers scrambled to secure her a bigger stage.
The brief Grammys profile segment, which touched on Roan’s unhappy childhood in Willard, Missouri, set up a grand-scale performance of “Pink Pony Club,” with rodeo clowns dancing to the star as she sang atop a huge pink horse.
Later Roan won the best new artist Grammy and used her time on stage to urge major labels and the music industry to “offer a living wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists.”
