CBS Bay Area named local broadcast partner of Golden State Valkyries

CBS Bay Area will be the official local broadcasting partner for the Golden State Valkyries for the team’s inaugural season, the organization announced on Friday.

The partnership will air pre- and post game shows along with a weekly lifestyle program that will offer behind-the-scenes access of the team. CBS Bay Area will carry all of the Valkyries’ preseason games leading up to the team’s season opener against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 16 at Chase Center.

“Partnering with a broadcast powerhouse like CBS Bay Area ensures that Valkyries’ basketball will reach fans across every screen from day one,” team president Jess Smith said in a release. “This relationship will create immersive, season-long storytelling opportunities that will help fans connect with our players, coaches, and the excitement of WNBA basketball in the Bay Area.”

Games and exclusive team shows will air on KPIX and KPYX in the Bay Area. A select few televised games will be available on CBS Sacramento (KOVR and KMAX), according to the release.

“We are honored to be part of the Valkyries’ Inaugural Season. As excited as we are about being part of just plain great basketball, this partnership is about so much more than the game,” President and General Manager of CBS Bay Area Scott Warren said in the release. “This partnership underscores our commitment to providing compelling, locally relevant content to our audience. We look forward to celebrating the Valkyries’ historical first year and sharing their stories and journey both on and off the court.”

Silicon Valley’s inequality gap is growing twice as fast as in rest of U.S.

Release of the broadcast team and schedule are set to be released in the coming weeks.
