Canucks Must Sign Exciting 6-Foot-4 Bruins Prospect Center

The 2025-26 season was a complete and utter disaster for the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks finished the 2025-26 season at the bottom of the NHL standings with an ugly 25-49-8 record and just 58 points. This led to them starting a rebuild, as they traded Quinn Hughes, Conor Garland, Tyler Myers, David Kampf, and Lukas Reichel all this season.

Following the season, the Canucks also fired Patrik Allvin from their general manager position. It is understandable, as the Canucks have fallen off immensely since they finished the 2023-24 season with a 50-23-3 record.

With the Canucks rebuilding, it is also very possible that they will continue to listen to offers for their veteran players during the summer. While the Canucks are likely to do some selling again this offseason, they also should not be afraid to add to their roster during the summer. This is especially so when it comes to younger talent that would have the potential to benefit them long-term.

Due to this, the Canucks have a clear prospect from the Boston Bruins who they should be looking to target this summer.

Vancouver Canucks Must Sign Bruins Prospect Andre Gasseau in Free Agency This Summer

In his most recent 32 Thoughts column for Sportsnet, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared that Boston Bruins prospect Andre Gasseau will not sign with the Original Six club and will instead become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) in August.

“Andre Gasseau, Boston’s seventh-round pick in 2021, is going to free agency in August. Astute pick by the Bruins, but will test the market,” Friedman wrote.

With Gasseau being a 6-foot-4 center with good upside coming off a strong senior season with Boston College and just 22 years old, he is exactly the kind of prospect that a rebuilding team like the Canucks should have on their radar. If the Canucks signed him, he could immediately be a fit on their NHL roster as soon as next season.

Gasseau certainly performed well during this campaign with Boston College. In 23 games with the school this season, he had six goals, 17 assists, and 23 points. This is after he had 15 goals and 30 points in 36 games for BC during the 2024-25 season. With numbers like these, he has shown promise at the collegiate level and would be an excellent prospect for the Canucks to take a flier on.

Gasseau is not a skilled forward offensively, but is also not afraid to play a heavy game. Because of this, he would have the potential to be a solid bottom-six forward at least for the Canucks if they signed him.

The Canucks Will Have Competition to Land Gasseau

Gasseau had a strong collegiate career, as evidenced by his 43 goals, 68 assists, and 111 points in 135 games. With this and him being a young and big center, he should have plenty of suitors once he hits the market. As a result of this, the Canucks will have competition to sign the Los Angeles native if they decide to pursue him.

Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see if the Canucks end up making a push for Gasseau. With Vancouver being in a major rebuild, he is the kind of prospect that should be grab their attention once he hits the market in August.
