California Pizza Kitchen will mark its 40th anniversary on Thursday, March 27.
The first restaurant opened at 207 S. Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills on that date, according to the chain, which is now based in Costa Mesa. The location still exists.

CPK was founded by Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, former federal prosecutors who went on to open their own practice specializing in criminal defense before deciding they preferred the restaurant business.
The chain broke ground with its wood-fired ovens and inventive pizzas at affordable prices, especially the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza.
To mark the occasion, CPK is bringing back some of its fan favorites as selected by Rosenfield, Flax, executive chef Paul Pszybylski, staff members and customers, according to a news release. Among them are Rosemary Roasted Potato & Grilled Chicken Pizza, Chicken Milanese, Waldorf Chicken Salad and Tortilla Spring Rolls.
The chain is also launching a campaign called “40 and Fine With It,” featuring actor Busy Philipps, and a revamped Thank You Card promotion.
