There’s plenty around the United Center that disgruntled Bulls fans would want removed, but the six championship banners weren’t on the list.
A few players, maybe some members of the front office, but not the banners.
Unfortunately, it was announced that all six of the banners were removed from the rafters for the remainder of the season, damaged during a Disturbed concert.
The heavy metal band, which was coincidentally from Chicago, did use some pyrotechnics during the show, and it was believed that the heat damaged the bottom halves of the banners. None of the other banners or retired numbers were affected.
A statement was issued that read, “Following Saturday night’s concert, United Center staff discovered minor damage to the Bulls championship banners that hang in the rafters. United Center is currently working with the Bulls to explore options to repair these banners, however, we don’t anticipate them being back in place for the remainder of this season. We anticipate them being back in place next season.”
