The Denver Broncos are quite fortunate, with several of their recent injury scares proving to be false alarms, including Marvin Mims.
Mims’ situation stands out from the others as he enters the final year of his rookie contract with little chatter regarding a potential extension, beyond the Broncos expressing their desire to retain him while also stacking his position.
For that reason, staying healthy and on the field is critical for Mims.
Marvin Mims Jr. Avoids Disaster

“Per source, Marvin Mims Jr. will be fine after Riley Moss fell on his arm near the end of practice,” DNVR Broncos’ Zac Stevens reported on X on August 6. “Mims was in visible pain and the trainers looked at him. But he will be okay.”
The optimism is encouraging.
It initially appeared as though Mims could be dealing with something severe based on his reaction in the immediate aftermath.
“Marvin Mims just threw his helmet down to the ground as he walked to the sideline following an incomplete pass his way. Being checked out by a trainer on the sideline. Hopefully he’s okay,” KOA’s Anthony Rodriguez reported on X on August 6.
“Marvin Mims stayed on the field and did sideline-to-sideline sprints with the team to end practice. Good sign.”
Rodriguez said Mims “had been rotating his left arm a few times while sitting on the sideline.”
The Broncos have also had scares with starters Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle. But they, like Mims, have at the very least avoided suffering significant injuries. Time will tell if Mims is able to return for the Broncos’ next practice.
Waddle did not practice and is not expected to for several more days, according to head coach Sean Payton.
Marvin Mims Jr. Could Get Significant Payday

Mims is a two-time Pro Bowler, earning nods in 2023 as a rookie and again in 2024, and he was a First Team All-Pro during his first season, too. However, Mims remains an enigmatic part of the Broncos’ offense in his fourth season.
That makes his future with the club a source of intrigue. Spotrac projected his market value at a three-year, $19.5 million contract.
The Broncos can afford to pay him, but they have several other players to consider.
Mims’ value as a receiver (98-1,208-8 for his career) is behind that as a returner (1,172 yards and 1 TD on punt returns, 1,249 yards and 1 TD on kick returns), and the Broncos’ inaction has proven to be writing on the wall in the past.
