The Denver Broncos have already been labeled a team to watch this offseason, but one bold prediction has them making two massive swings to help quarterback Bo Nix.
In a recent piece for Sports Illustrated, Conor Orr predicted that the Broncos will trade for both Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.
âSean Payton will trade for both David Montgomery and A.J. Brown,â Orr wrote.
He added that Denver could spend âmultiple picks between the second and fourth rounds to bring in veterans who can keep Denver in the hunt.â
According to Orr, the idea is simple.
The Broncos need more firepower around Nix after narrowly missing out on a Super Bowl appearance, and Payton may not want to rely solely on the draft to fix it.
A.J. Brown Trade Would Transform Broncos Passing Attack
Wide receiver remains one of Denverâs biggest needs. The depth behind Courtland Sutton lacks proven production.
Adding a player of Brownâs caliber would immediately elevate the offense.
There is at least some smoke around Brownâs future in Philadelphia.
ESPNâs Tim McManus recently noted that the Eagles must determine âwhether heâll commit to the operation and be aligned with quarterback Jalen Hurts moving forward.â
McManus added that âif the Eagles are convinced that wonât happen, a trade might be in order.â
If Brown were actually made available, Denver would instantly become far more dangerous.
Pairing him with Sutton would give Nix one of the better wide receiver duos in the league and significantly raise the ceiling of Paytonâs offense.
This would be an all-in move for Denver.
David Montgomery Fits Broncos Vision
At running back, the Broncos could also be in the market for change. J.K. Dobbins is set to hit free agency, and while RJ Harvey flashed at times, Denver lacks a true power presence.
Montgomeryâs name has surfaced in trade chatter after Lions general manager Brad Holmes acknowledged conversations about his future:
âHe deserves to be in a situation where his skill set can be utilized,â Holmes said. He also expressed hope that the running back remains in Detroit.
Montgomery saw his role decrease behind Jahmyr Gibbs in 2025.
However, he remains a physical, reliable runner who can handle early downs and contribute in the passing game.
In Paytonâs system, he could serve as the tone setter while allowing Harvey to operate in space. Their skill sets would complement each other well.
If the Broncos are serious about maximizing their championship window after coming up just short, moves like these would reflect an aggressive approach.
Whether either blockbuster actually materializes remains to be seen, but Denverâs name is firmly in the conversation.
