Broncos Coach Sends Huge Josh Allen Message Before Bills Clash

Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph didn’t dance around it this week: Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is one of the rare players who can “take over games” in the NFL, and Joseph said Denver has been building toward matchups like this one.

Speaking ahead of the Broncos’ showdown with the Bills, Joseph called Allen “a special player,” putting him in the same “wreck your dreams” tier as Lamar Jackson, and he tied it to the reality of the AFC path.

“There’s certain guys in this league that can take over games and he’s one of those guys,” Joseph said, adding that in the AFC, “it was going to go through Patrick and Lamar and Josh… and Joe Burrow.”

That quote hit even louder because Joseph is also in the middle of the annual head-coaching carousel, with teams showing interest as the Broncos stack wins and their defense looks postseason-ready. His opinion carries a little more weight right now.

Vance Joseph Calls Josh Allen a Rare “Take Over Games” QB

Joseph’s praise wasn’t generic. He specifically highlighted what makes Allen such a nightmare to game-plan: the combination of size, arm talent, and legs — plus the fact you can’t replicate it in practice.

“His legs are special… he can make every single throw,” Joseph said. “But you can’t assimilate it… it’s one Josh Allen and he lives in Buffalo.”

That’s the tightrope defensive coordinators walk against Buffalo: if you sell out to keep Allen in the pocket, he can still rip throws outside structure. If you play coverage-heavy and rush conservatively, he can turn third-and-long into a backbreaking scramble.

Joseph’s bottom line was simple: Denver has to be ready to adjust fast once the game reveals what Buffalo is leaning on. The name Josh Allen also rings a little louder in Denver, at least according to John Elway.

Why This Hits Different With Joseph’s Head-Coaching Buzz

Joseph acknowledged he’s been through the head-coaching process “third or fourth” time and said the “prep’s overrated” because it’s really about fit and conversation, but he also made it clear what fuels the interest: winning.

“You have to win to gain respect for those jobs,” Joseph said, noting his focus stayed on the Broncos and “whatever happens happens.”

He also framed the outside interest as bigger than him, pointing to the organization and coaching staff as part of the “recipe” teams want when they look at a winning program.

In other words: while Joseph is getting interviews, he’s treating this Bills week like a referendum on Denver’s defense, the kind of game that can either validate a unit on a big stage or expose it.

What It Means for the Broncos Defense

Denver’s path here is obvious, but not easy:

Joseph said the expectation is for the Broncos to play their best ball now.

“I’m hoping we play our best football Saturday,” he said. “It’s time.”

Bills-Broncos Stakes and What to Watch

This matchup also comes with a larger AFC message baked in: if Denver truly believes it can get where it wants to go, it has to show it can survive a superstar QB who can win in multiple ways.
