Broncos CB Pat Surtain II named AFC Defensive Player of the Month

Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for November, the league announced on Thursday.

The award is much deserving for Denver’s All-Pro defensive back. In November, Surtain did not allow a touchdown as the nearest defender in four games.

He was targeted 17 times on 140 coverage snaps and forced a tight window — less than 1 yard of separation — on 41.2% of targets, the ninth-highest rate among 88 cornerbacks with at least 10 targets during that span, according to NFL’s Next Gen Stats. Surtain also allowed 4.0 yards per target and did not allow a single completion over 10 air yards.

Surtain has given up fewer than 30 receiving yards in nine games this season.

This is the first time Surtain has been named defensive player of the month. He is the first Bronco to receive Player of the Month honors since Wil Lutz in November of 2023, and the first Denver defensive player to earn the award since Von Miller in 2021.

He is the first Bronco cornerback to be named defensive player of the month since Champ Bailey in 2006.

Through 13 games, Surtain has 31 tackles, three interceptions, including a pick-6, and nine passes defended. He has given up a 60.5 passer rating when targeted.
