There was clearly no love lost between 2021 World Series MVP Jorge Soler and his former MLB team, the Atlanta Braves, when Soler charged the mound on Braves’ starter Reynaldo Lopez. However, wouldn’t it be hilarious if the Braves ended up swinging a mid-season trade for Jorge Soler to help with their power balance in the outfield?
Per ESPN’s David Schoenfield, the Angels’ top trade candidate this season could be Jorge Soler:
“Are they good enough to stay in the race? We’ll see. The pitching is thin, and the bench is weak. Soler could be one of the few big hitters available if the Angels fade, but they’re usually unwilling to admit that they’re out of it (see Shohei Ohtani in 2023).”
Also, according to Shoenfield, the Braves’ top need is a ‘right-handed hitting outfielder’. The Angels’ top need? Prospects for their seemingly constant rebuild.

Should the Braves Trade for Jorge Soler (Again)?

If you remember that Atlanta Braves ‘banner hanging’ season in 2021, perhaps the biggest trade Alex Anthopoulos made at the trade deadline was dealing for Jorge Soler, who went on to win World Series MVP due to several towering home runs.
Now, in a separate rendition of a Braves-Jorge Soler trade, Atlanta gives up prospect Owen Murphy for Jorge Soler, who is also once again a rental piece due to his looming free agency.
Shoenfield explains why the Braves need another right-handed bat who can provide some power upside:
“Their trade needs will be dependent on what happens with pitcher health, but they could use a platoon partner for Mike Yastrzemski in left field, thanks to Jurickson Profar’s suspension. Teams will no doubt ask about Didier Fuentes, JR Ritchie and Cam Caminiti, the Braves’ top three pitching prospects, but don’t expect them to go anywhere. Murphy is next in line behind that trio, in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, but will need to get his velocity out of the low 90s to have more trade value.”
This seems like a perfect trade idea because Atlanta isn’t offloading any of those three top prospects and is gaining another certified power threat in the batting order, which would just continue to add another level of depth to the team.

Braves Are Off to a Stellar Start in 2026
There are only three teams in Major League Baseball with 15 wins: The Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres. That’s the list.
The Braves have shocked many MLB fans due to their stellar pitching, clutch offense, and some surprising names (Dom Smith) that have performed very strongly in the eary goings.
Atlanta will also welcome back starter Spencer Strider and catcher Sean Murphy soon, which will be another boost.
Also, another level of this trade idea could mean Jorge Soler getting a majority of at-bats at the DH position.
