Boy, 17, dies in Englewood crash that seriously injured 3 others

A 17-year-old Joliet boy has died and three others were injured when two sport utility vehicles collided Sunday night in Englewood.

About 10:10 p.m., a gray SUV struck a white SUV that ran a red light in the intersection of the 7100 block of South Ashland Avenue, Chicago police said.

Dontrell W. Ferguson, who was a passenger in the white, suffered “major” injuries and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:46 p.m., according to the Cook County medical office.

Another passenger in the white SUV was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the gray SUV suffered a concussion and she was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was in serious condition, officials said. A passenger in the same vehicle suffered a hip injury and was taken to the same hospital in serious condition.

Traffic citations were pending.
