Boy, 15, runs for cover behind parked car as shooters follow him in deadly Little Village attack: police

Assailants gunned down a 15-year-old boy who ran for cover from gunfire by getting behind a parked car Friday evening in Little Village on the West Side.

Jerry F. Aquino was in the 2800 block of South Komensky Avenue around 5:10 p.m. Friday when a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with no front license plate approached and occupants inside opened fire, Chicago police said.

Aquino then ran for cover behind a parked car when two masked gunmen exited the Jeep and shot Aquino while he was on the ground, according to police reports obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Aquino, of Little Village, was shot in the back, chest and left foot and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m., the police report stated.

A witness told officers he heard five to six shots, according to police. Five shell casings were found at the scene.

The witness, who told the Sun-Times he was a close family friend of Aquino, declined to comment Monday morning.

Area 4 detectives are investigating but no arrests have been announced.
