Bought a Zicam cold or flu product? You could get money in $6M class action settlement

If you purchased a Zicam product to treat your cold or flu symptoms last year, you could be entitled to some cash back — but the deadline to make a claim is fast approaching.

Church & Dwight Co., the manufacturer of Zicam products, has agreed to settle a $6 million class action suit filed in 2022 alleging that it engaged in misleading advertising. According to the lawsuit, Church & Dwight falsely claimed that its products were proven to be effective at shortening the length and severity of cold and flu illnesses.

As part of the settlement, Church & Dwight denies wrongdoing and says it does have proper clinical evidence to backup its products’ claims. Multiple Zicam-brand items were named explicitly in the suit, including RapidMelts, Oral Mist and medicated fruit drops, but all Zicam products are considered to be part of the suit and settlement.

Church & Dwight has also agreed to change the labeling on Zicam products as part of the agreement.

Who qualifies for a payment?

Any consumer in the U.S. who purchased one or more Zicam products before October 17, 2024, is eligible for payment as part of the settlement.

If you have proof of purchase like a receipt, you can get $5 back per product purchased up to 6, totaling $30. Without proof of purchase, you can still get some cash back, but it will be $2.50 up to two products for a total of $5.

How to get your payment

To claim your payment, visit the class action settlement website and submit a claim form online. To do so, you’ll need to fill out your full name, address, contact information, and information about which products you purchased.

You can then choose a payment method to receive your money: a prepaid MasterCard, Venmo, or Zelle.

The deadline to make a claim is Friday. More information will be forthcoming on the class action website about the timeline in which to expect a payment.
