Body of missing Country Club Hills woman found in forest preserve

A Country Club Hills woman who was reported missing this month was found dead Saturday in a Cook County forest preserve.

Yolanda Howell, 78, was reported missing Oct. 8 after she was last seen near her home at 187th Street and Cedar Avenue in the south suburb, according to Country Club Hills police.

Police searched the area in the following days without finding any evidence of her whereabouts until an anonymous tip Friday night led law enforcement to a forest preserve west of Cicero Avenue, Country Club Hills Police Chief Michael Wilson said at a news conference Saturday.

Officers searched that area Saturday morning and found Howell’s body, police said. No foul play is suspected in her death.

Howell had been suffering from dementia, her family had told WGN-TV Channel 9.

Detectives are investigating the death. An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner’s office is pending.
